The Key Players

What we do, what they do and what you need to do!

The Role of USA ProJam

Our responsibility to you and the Golf Coach is one of an intermediary, we have very good relationships with a number of quality Universities. These relationships and trust have been built up over the last fifteen years through recommending good players to the right universities.

We have to look at the individual and give them a fair and honest assessment, this is critical because you need to know exactly where you stand and the Coach has to trust our assessment.

We will not sell a false promise; there is no future in it. All you will get from USA ProJAm is the facts and an honest appraisal.

Once we have found the right Coach, Scholarship and University for you and the letter of intent has been signed the rest is up to you and your Coach.

Our Promise To You

We will not take you on if we do not believe you have a very good chance of being placed.

We will only have ten players on our books at any one time for any given year. What this means is that if we take you on you will receive the best in service because we will only have nine other people on our book for the year you want to be enrolled.

You will play golf and be honestly and professionally assessed by one of our staff.

We are results driven and the full amount is only payable if you are placed.

The Role Of The Coach

The University’s Head Golf Coach is employed by the Universities athletic department to manage the golf team.

His main responsibilities are recruiting the best future golfers whilst keeping his present team playing and practising to the best possible standard. Recruiting is about half of his job, without enticing the best future players into his squad the future teams performance will suffer.

The rest of his job, simply put, is managing the team he has in place. The Coach of a squad generally has four and a half full scholarships at his disposal. One full scholarship will pay for your tuition fees, books and board (room and food). Normally the Coach has up to ten players on the squad where only five will travel to each tournament. These four and a half scholarships are divided amongst the team. For example two full scholarships and five half scholarships would make up a team of seven.

The Coach makes the decisions on the way the four and a half scholarships are divided, which makes him the team manager and your boss. He has to make sure that you keep your grades to a level where you remain eligible to play for the team. This part is actually under your role and responsibility too!

Scholarships can go up and they can go down. A scholarship will last for one academic year. It is up to you to stay eligible and become a valued member of the team. In doing this the scholarship for the following year should be safe.

It’s probably worth knowing at this stage that the Coach is more of a Team Manager and is responsible for the team, their golf knowledge varies as far as the technical elements of the swing. He/she is rarely a P.G.A professional.

Your Role

You will be called a Student Athlete when you receive your scholarship and enrol into the University. These words are very important and the positioning of them is equally important. You will be a student first and an athlete/golfer second.

If your grades slip, you would then become ineligible, and that means you cannot play for the Golf team. The knock on effect of this is that you have no value for the Coach and you are not eligible for scholarship money.

The role of the Student Athlete is to keep his/her grades up and to play good golf. Simple really.
